Show Me Your ID

Ok, so today my best friend, Bianca, and I wanted to go see a MA15+ movie, but with only two months away from the desirable age - they wouldn't let us. But we didn't stop there. Oh no, we're determined young ladies.
Since I asked for the tickets first, we decided that it was her turn to see what she can do. We waited for the manager who helped us the first time to go into the back, quickly swopped a few clothing items and had her put her hair up in a ponytail. We were ready for action. Our tactic: she forgot her ID (instead of what we did earlier, which was to show our IDs).

Well sadly to say, we got turned down once again :(. However, call him Mr Right-place-at-the-right-time if you want, a family friend of my dad's came out of his movie at just that moment. After some discussion, we decided to see if he could get us some tickets. So we said hello and explained our little dilemma to him. He agreed and bought us the tickets.
So as you can imagine, we were a little overconfident and felt just a wee bit arrogant and superior about the fact that we managed to cheat the system.

As we walked determinedly and with our heads raised high through the door into the movie, we met our downfall. Just as we were about  to decide where to sit our superior little butts down, the manager that turned us down the first time came up behind us and asked to see our tickets. We showed our tickets and then he demanded to know where we got them from. Stupidly I responded with the first thing I could think of, "My dad bought it for us."
So knowing that we had permission from our parents he couldn't exactly do too much to us except escort us out of the building. So it was with slumped shoulders and humbled egos that we exited the cinemas with an old, bold manager escorting us and an extremely hot guy (and when I say hot, I mean future boyfriend material) from our school holding the door open - barely able to keep from laughing at us.

Has anything like this ever happened to you?

True Leadership

For an English assessment recently, I had to make a huge poster on a theme that I chose from the book we're reading, Tomorrow When the War Began. I had to cut out words and pictures  from magazines and newspapers that describes the theme Leadership. Well I got words like confident, dominant, determined and in charge. Doing this got me thinking: What is true leadership really? Do you have to be loud and fierce and scary to have people 'obey' you, thus making you a good leader?
I don't know. Maybe you do and I've got this all wrong, but I think leadership is about more than just telling people what to do. A good leader has to be there to offer support, listen (not just talk), and motivate. We can find leaders among us in everyday life, not just people like Obama and Hitler. Teachers, for example, should be leaders too. They have to show you what to do, lead you in the right direction, and be there to support you and motivate you. My favourite teachers are the ones that I can talk to and who gently pushes me to make the right decision, not the ones who yell and threaten and who you are too scared to approach. There can be leaders among your friends too, you just have to be on the lookout for them.
So I want you to think; who plays a leadership role in your life?

From Small Beginnings Come Great Things

Hi everyone!!!
This is my first blog, so I hope you enjoy it!
I want to travel the world someday, but for now I'm stuck in boring old Perth. My parents are both teachers at my school, Dad's Head of Department: Technology & Enterprise and my mum teaches English(bonus popularity points...Not). I have a little brother who's a couple of years below me (yep, still at the same school) and two dogs, Coco and Pepsi.
